These blogs were started as they held two of the main themes on this blog which were intertwined with a lot of posts of a fairly random nature. I’ll continue to post to this blog, but both of the aforementioned blogs will likely bet getting more and more attention as time goes on.
What is Uniqlock? A clock, some catchy music, interpretive dance, data visualization, and a blog widget. It’s also viral advertising pay dirt for Uniqlo, the Japanese clothing retailer who created it.
Launched in June, there are more than 14,000 Uniqlocks set, and the site has been viewed nearly 3.5 million times by visitors from 200 countries. Uniqlock (and Uniqlo) is better experienced than explained (go ahead, click on it).
The performance art piece wasn’t what got my attention, it was the WORLD.UNIQLOCK’s data visualization piece. To get to it, go to the Uniqlock site, click on the “MENU” on the left-hand side of the screen, then select the “WORLD.UNIQLOCK” option.
Whoops! ScanSafe reported that between the 8th of August and through early September ad exchange Right Media served up somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 million infected ads carrying a Trojan-Downloader.VBS.Agent.
It turns out that seventy of Right Media’s ad servers were infected. Some of the web sites that were effected included MySpace, Bebo and Photobucket.
In a recent press release, Dan Nadir, vice president for product strategy at Scansafe said “this is another example of how legitimate ‘trusted’ Web sites can unknowingly host malware. Online ads have become a primary target for malware authors because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide audience”.
You either love or hate the Geico Cavemen. I’m a fan. I find the Cavemen doubly great because I can’t stand that pompous little lizard. If you feel the same, check out the after party—you can throw darts at it.
